After a forgetable series with the Longhorns the Aggies got a little bit of good news to the cheer them up with 10 players recieving post season honors. Winning Co-Newcomers of the year were SS Brandon Hicks and Pitcher David Newman. First teamers were DH Luke Anders, utility man Blake Stouffer, and pitcher Kyle Nicholson. Second teamers were 2B Parker Dalton, and SS Brandon Hicks. And honorable mention were C Craig Stinson, OF Ben Feltner, and P David Newman.

This is a far better showing for the Aggies than in recent years but they do still have an arguement that Kyle Nicholson should've been the pitcher of the year instead of longhorn Adrian Alaniz. Alaniz had a 2.75 conference ERA with 49 strikeouts. Aggie super stud Kyle Nicholson had a 2.03 ERA in conference with 50 strikeouts and 2 CG and a 7-0 record in conference. Over the entire season Nicholson had 1.91 ERA with 91 strikeouts! I don't understand how he didn't win the award except for an obvious burnt orange media conspiracy.

Other outstanding individual performances by Ags were Blake Stouffer finishing second in the conference with 84 hits, second with 70 RBI's, and tied for forth with fellow Aggie Brandon Hicks with 18 doubles. Hicks also finished second in runs scored with 67, fourth in total bases with 135, and second to his speedy counterpart Ben Felther with 27 stolen bases. Feltner stole 30 of 32 bases to lead the conference.

The Aggies are back in the Big 12 tournament after failing to finish in the top 8 last season with the number 5 seed. Their first round opponent will be 4th seeded Nebraska. In the regular season matchup the Ags won 2 of the 3 game series losing the first 4-11 before rebounding to win 8-5 and 8-7. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the Childress said he'd be starting Kirkland Rivers in this game. Which tells me he's either saving Nicholson for revenge in the second game against Texas or he's going to save Nicholson all he can until regional play rolls around. And Kyle definitley deserves it after his blue collar like performance this season. A few wins would be nice and should solidify at least a host of the regional round at Olsen Field.  We'll keep you updated on the Aggies performance as it plays out in Oklahoma City.
