Well I've traveled into the heart of Cajun country this weekend to see my friends that have moved out here to work at LSU. I've learned a couple of interesting things out here. First, I learned how to eat a crawfish with one hand nearly doubling my crawfish intake per minute time. And second, LSU football tickets are freakin cheap! Some of my friends students came over and we watched the De La Hoya v Mayweather fight (which turned out to kinda suck)and we got to talking college football. These guys were pretty knowledgeable and one had been to the '04 ou game and said that was a game atmosphere he had never seen. So they quickly earned my respect. So we got to talking and I told them how I'd always wanted to make a big time SEC game and I asked how hard it was to get a ticket. To my surprise they said it was relatively easy and I could get a good ticket for $70. I was shocked. I could go to a big time game in the SEC to watch a team that is just 3 years removed from winning a national championship for $70 but to watch my Aggies that hadn't won a championship since 1939 I'd be paying closer to $90. And then to my surprise they told me that a student ticket was less than $20 and that when they won the national championship they paid $7 A TICKET! This is just rediculous. I don't want to hear Bill Byrne ever talk about how higher ticket prices are just part of the cost of "Building Champions". The LSU Tigers have been champions and they did it with ticket prices that allowed their faithful to be there at the game without having to dip into savings. While I'm impressed with the steps that the athletic department has made in the past 5 years I still wonder why is it taking so much from the fans? I know that Aggies around the country will do anything to support their bretheren but I just feel that Byrne and the rest of the University administration is taking too much of an advantage of this. Bring back the family friendly atmosphere Mr. Bryne. What would you rather have? A stadium 80-90% full at a higher ticket price that maximizes profit or a stadium that is filled to the brim with a slightly lower profit but a larger home field advantage that pushes the team over the top and increases licensing fees from marketing as aggie gear is coveted by all around the country? Drop the prices and they will come.
