The Aggies started off with double fever against the 2nd place Oklahoma State Cowboys. After two quick outs on a strike out and a caught stealing the Ags started a little 2 out rally with a double from Stouffer and then a double from Colligan and then another double from Luke Anders scoring 2 early runs to to take the early lead. Stinson the flied out to end the inning leavingi Anders stranded at second. In the second inning the Aggies kept the pressure on with their amazing team speed after getting runners on first and second Ben Feltner hit a two out grounder to second base and his speed forced a bad throw to first scoring Darby Brown. And the Ags added another run in the sixth when Luke Anders scored off of a Dalton bunt. Nicholson started strong and kept it there allowing no runs on 4 hits through eight innings. It was the ninth inning when thing started to get hairy. Nicholson gave up a single followed by a triple making the game 4-1. Then Blake Stouffer committed his third error of the game allowing Rebel Riddling to get on base and third baseman Mangini to score. Nicholson then gave up another single followed by a long fly ball to right field and Brodie Green who came up throwing and was able to gun Riddling at home preserving the 2 run lead. It was then that Childress decided he had seen enough and pulled Nicholson for relief pitcher Kyle Thebeau. Thebeau finished the game off with a strikeout and a long fly ball to CF Colligan.
These Aggies showed everything that they are tonight. They are a fast team with the ability to really press the opposing pitcher and score at any time. They're not afraid to run with 3 stolen bases tonight but at the same time they're not a great fielding team which was evident by Stouffer's three errors. And they have an ace that can carry them a long ways in Nicholson. Only time will tell but things are looking good for the Aggies. Many people are predicting that if they can win this series and stay at the top of the Big 12 they have a good chance of hosting a regional and a super regional. That's a long ways from where we were last year but Childress has proved again that Byrne knows how to hire coaches and we'll see if he can pull some more of that magic out of the corn in Nebraska to carry us back to the College World Series and a championship.
