What a weekend
World Series Bound!

It was a good weekend to be an Aggie as the Lady Ags advanced to Women's College World Series and the men defeated Baylor for their first ever Big 12 tourney championship!  It all started Friday when the Lady Ags behind a great pitching performance and some timely hitting including a home run by Megan Gibson to go on to win 2-0.  It looked like they were going to wrap up the series with a win in the second game but the Lady Gators wouldn't go away and tied the game late.  Then in the bottom of the seventh they hit a walk off home run over the left field fence to force a third game.  The Lady Ags didn't let that get them down and came back to win the third and final game 2-0 sending them to the Women's College World Series for the first time since 1988.

Big 12 Tourney Recap
Ags Win! Ags Win!

They finally did it.  After losing 8 straight games to their nemisis in Austin the Aggie Baseball team finally pulled out a win and it couldn't have come at a better time. After dropping 6 straight games to end the season they now have a backdoor chance at getting into the Big 12 championship game.  The big play of the game was when the Ags loaded the bases and catcher Craig Stinson deposited the ball over the fence for a grand Slam.  Aggie Pitcher Kirkland Rivers ate up important innings going 6 2/3 innings giving up 3 runs on 7 hits.  Now if the Ags beat KSU on Saturday and Texas beats Nebraska the Ags will win their pool and face the winner of the other pool for the Big 12 championship.  This could be huge in deciding if they host a regional.

Next Game: 10 am (5)Ags vs (8) Wildcats

Gator huntin
Well after a little drama the softball team was able to come back from an early loss to win the College Station regional and advance to a super regional against the Florida Gators. All three games will be played in Aggieland and carried on ESPN or ESPN2. Since I'm sure no one has clue about what the Gators will bring I did some research. The bigget difference in the stats is the fact that Florida has played 69 games to A&M's 55. However the ags have a better batting average and have scored more runs on the season. It looks like it could be a pitching duel as both teams have a sub 1.40 ERA. Their pitching was dominant in the regional round as they didn't allow a single run in the tourney. They were also the team that knocked out tu 3-0.

Children of the corn prevail
The Ags did not bounce back from their poor performance against the horns like I hoped they would and fell to Nebraska 5-3. They left 13 men on base and were only 2 for 14 with runners in scoring position. The Ags have no lost 5 straight games and can probably kiss away their chances of hosting a regional. Many people are pointing to Stouffer striking out after being up in a count 3-0 and the bases loaded with 2 outs late in the game down one but they shouldn't have ever been in that situation. They squandered opportunities from the beginning and the pitchers didn't help either after giving up a run on two balks. Childress used Ehlert, Uekert, and Starling in the game and in his postgame audio said Rivers would get the start today against Texas. He said that unless there was a late chance for a win don't expect to see Nicholson. So now we'll see if they can snap an 8 game losing streak to the horns when they play today at 4 pm. The horns won yesterday in a slugfest against KSU 19-10 but had to use their top reliever in the win. They'll probably be reluctant to run him out there again so maybe the ags can get into that bullpen.

Duke back in the Final Four
Surprise, surprise. The Duke Blue Devils and the Final Four pretty much go hand and hand together the past few years however this time it's not basketball. The Duke lacrosse team, coming off a season in which their entire administration, campus, and community had turned their backs on them and forced them out of playing the season, has come back to advance to the Final Four of lacrosse in Baltimore. And to make it even better for the Dukies out there they did so by beating up on the Tar Heels from UNC. Let me reassure you that I HATE Duke. I hate their fans. I hate Coach Cantspellyourname. I hate the attention that their over-rated basketball team recieves. But I hate when people are given a raw deal by someone looking to benefit from someone elses prosperity even more
